Cataratas de Iguaçu (Iguazu Waterfall

A Àrea das Cataratas têm cerca de 275 quedas de àgua, com uma altura superior a 70 metros ao longo de 2,7 km do Rio Iguaçu. A Garganta do Diabo principia em forma de "U" invertido com 150 metros de largura e 80 metros de altura. Veja o termo "Desfiladeiro". A Garganta do Diabo é o maior, o mais majestoso e impressionante de todos eles. Este é devido pela linha fronteira entre o Brasil e a Argentina.

A maioria das quedas de água (também chamados de saltos) ficam em território argentino, mas é efetivamente do lado brasileiro que se obtêm os mais belos panoramas.

The waterfall system consists of 275 falls along 2.7 kilometres (1.67 miles) of the Iguazu River. Some of the individual falls are up to 82 metres (269 feet) in height, though the majority are about 64 metres (210 feet). The Garganta del Diablo or Devils Throat (Garganta do Diabo in Portuguese), a U-shaped 150-metre-wide and 700-metre-long (490 by 2300 feet) cliff, is the most impressive of all, and marks the border between Argentina and Brazil. Most of the falls are within Argentine territory. About 900 metres of the 2.7-kilometre length does not have water flowing over it. The edge of the basalt cap recedes only 3 mm per year.

The water of the lower Iguazu collects in a canyon that drains into the Rio Parana in Argentina.
